Engineer - Ground Software


The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking mid to senior level software engineers to develop innovative high-quality solutions in support of satellite ground software. Positions are for Colorado Springs, Colorado. Responsibilities will include the development of ground segment software including applications and services for general infrastructure and platform components for satellite ground control systems to be deployed in virtual private cloud environments. The position will contribute both to maturing a secure, distributed, rapid development environment as well as developing and maturing system components for science and technology satellite command and control. This activity includes both primary development, as well as supporting frameworks and services intended to support commercial vendor product integration.

 

Ideally, a candidate would have experience in an environment that includes an emphasis on space C2 systems, cybersecurity, legacy communications system migration, or national security development activities. Experience with server-side development is a must. Full-stack experience is desirable. Frontend development skills would be welcome but not essential.

 

A successful applicant will design, deliver, test, and maintain robust software components and work with a small team of software engineers, testers, DevSecOps engineers, and Space C2 domain experts.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related fields
  • Strong background in one or more of the following: C++, C, Java
  • Ability to use and uphold standard software development processes, including software analysis, design, testing, peer review, and continuous integration techniques
  • Containerized Microservices development;
  • Ansible and/or Puppet;
  • Agile/iterative systems development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of team collaboration environments (JIRA, wiki, workflow and ticket tracking, build automation)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with team member
  • Agree to work-related travel
  • Able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Position requires US Citizenship

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with the following:

  • Familiarity with a common scripting language (ideally, Python) is strongly preferred
  • Satellite telemetry acquisition and processing
  • Space Dynamics Algorithms / Orbital Dynamics
  • Secure coding disciplines
  • Security+, CISSP, or related certifications
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and shell scripting/automation
