Assistant Program Director - Jewish Coordinator

The Jewish Life Coordinator at Camp Micah helps to create a Jewish environment that focuses on traditions, values, spirituality, and, most importantly, being a good person. At Micah, we weave Jewish culture and learning into each day of our overnight camp experience. The Jewish Life Coordinator will plan, implement, and oversee a curriculum for Jewish learning opportunities, activities, and social action projects that mostly occur on Shabbat. This integral member of our team will train counselors to lead various activities and ensure their success. Camp Micah is looking for a warm, enthusiastic, hard working person with a passion for making Judaism fun and exciting for youth. Jewish Programming

·      Plan, implement, staff, and oversee Saturday Jewish learning opportunities and activities (Tikkuna Matata).

·      Meet with individual Saturday staff members to review upcoming activity plans, answer questions, disseminate materials, and ensure success.

·      Work with the Programming Team to ensure all materials and supplies are ordered, purchased, and/or gathered for all Tikkuna Matata programming.

·      Work with the Social Action Coordinator to implement social action projects into Tikkuna Matata activity periods and assist, when necessary, with coordination and assistance of b’nei mitzvah tutoring.

·      Consult with Head Counselors and Unit Leaders to infuse activities with Jewish culture and values, when appropriate.

·      Coordinate the “theme of the week” into various activities. Create tips for bunk staff to infuse the theme into daily life.

·      Work with the rabbi regarding Friday Erev Shabbat Services (or Saturday Boker Tov gatherings) when she is not able to be present.

·      Teach meaning of various prayers and blessings to staff and campers (i.e. Birkat HaMazon, Oseh Shalom, Modeh Ani, and Shehecheyanu during staff orientation)

·      Consult with and advise songleaders regarding weekly set lists for Song Session, when appropriate.

·      Coordinate weekly songleading camper prep for Song Session with Critters and Prowlers.

·      Lead Havdallah along with the songleaders at Campfire on Saturday nights.

·      Coordinate Saturday Clinic offerings and post them for campers to see

Member of the Programming Team

·      Assist the Programming Team in all aspects of their responsibilities (ie scheduling, special events, calendar, purchasing, transportation, and any other tasks that arise)

·      Attend Programming Team Meetings & Admin Team Meetings

General Administrative team responsibilities:

·      Ensure the safety and security of campers, staff and facility at all times (risk assessment)

·      Be an appropriate role model for other staff and campers.  Lead by example.

·      Inform director of any camper and staff problems

·      Pitch in where needed

·      Attend appropriate administrative meetings

·      Night responsibilities including Super OD
