Program and Membership Intern

About the Organization: The International Women’s Forum (IWF) is a membership organization comprised of more than 6,800 diverse and accomplished women from 33 nations on six continents. Its members are trailblazers, innovators, and pioneers united to advance women’s leadership locally and globally. Each year, IWF convenes two global conferences which are unique gatherings of thought leaders brought together to examine critical issues of the day within a local context through a women’s lens. IWF’s charitable arm, the Leadership Foundation (LF), supports high-potential women through two leadership development programs – the Fellows Program and the EY Women Athletes Business Network (WABN) Mentoring Program. IWF also runs the Executive Development Roundtable which is an intensive leadership training program for women at every stage of professional development.

Position: IWF is seeking an intern to join our program team and conduct research for future events, manage two program elements for the upcoming event in Miami, support speaker procurement, and write and edit materials for conferences. The Program and Membership Intern will report directly to the Program Director and work closely with the organization’s Chief Operating Officer and Conference Writer.

Possible Duties, Responsibilities and Projects:

  • Assemble daily briefing of news content pertaining to conference themes
  • Draft and edit speaker biographies, program materials and external communications
  • Review Board and Committee documents
  • Compile research and advance documents for IWF staff
  • Manage competitive program selection process
  • Oversee awardee logistics
  • Historical data analysis
  • Contribute ideas to program development conversations
  • Research speaker suggestions and content for events
  •  

As noted through the description of possible responsibilities and projects, the internship will enable the intern to develop his or her writing and editing skills through the creation of program materials. The intern will also further their research skills through projects with the IWF Program Team. Additionally, they will develop critical thinking skills by contributing ideas to the program development process for future events. Through communications with speakers and stakeholders, the intern will also enhance his or her written and oral professional communication skills.

The intern will take part in monthly "brown bag luncheons" and "job/project shadows" with IWF DC members and the IWF HQ team. While not a permanent member of the staff, the intern will participate in calls, meetings and daily activities to allow them to experience a professional environment at a non-profit.

Qualifications:

The position calls for a highly organized individual with excellent project management, writing and critical thinking skills. The intern should exhibit a commitment to the mission of IWF and ideally possess the following professional qualifications and personal attributes with a demonstrated ability in each area:

  • Ability to solve problems resourcefully, work independently and switch tasks efficiently
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Creative and curious nature, eager to learn and explore the innovations, challenges and solutions on the horizon
  • Interest in gender issues, women studies and/or international relations
  • Sensitivity and respect for the diversity of IWF, its membership and constituencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Foreign language skills and design experience, a plus
