Collections Intern, Visual History
Job Summary:
The Academy Oral History Projects Department invites current students of moving image archive studies or library & information programs to apply for a summer internship working with content produced by the Academy’s Visual History Program, a born-digital recording initiative of long-form video interviews with influential filmmakers.
We are seeking an organized and enthusiastic Intern who is fluent in Japanese (oral and written) and comfortable in a fast-paced production environment to assist the Oral History Projects’ staff in ongoing production, post-production, archival, and research activities supporting the Visual History Program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Timecode indexing of interviews from the Visual History Program collection
· Research and write biographical summaries for interview subjects
· Review recordings and write interview summaries
· Output audio for transcription
· Assist department staff with tasks related to transcription, DVD authoring, labeling, QC and updating inventories
· Research Japanese film history
· Assist in oral history production planning and logistics
· Assist in day of shoot logistics, coordination (runner) and notetaking
· Assist with Japanese written translation
· Select interview highlights for use in topical clip reels
· Assist in file and records management
· Research aspects of digital oral history best practices, especially as they relate to providing access to multilingual content
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Currently enrolled in a degree program for moving image archive studies or library & information programs
· Familiarity with spreadsheets (including Excel and Google Docs)
· Experience in data entry and management
· Advanced bilingual (English and Japanese) verbal and written communication skills
· Strong collaboration and problem solving skills with the ability to multitask while managing various projects.
