Brief Description of Intern Position:

 

The Coastal Zone Management Summer GIS Intern will work on two web-related GIS projects during their term. They will work closely with the GIS staff to develop an Android/iOS app for CZM’s Coast Guide Online, and to create an informative Story Map using CZM and USGS seafloor mapping data.

 

Description of Internship Duties:

 

Duties and Responsibilities for each of the projects are as follows.

 

1)   Coast Guide Online (CGO) is CZM’s interactive web map for statewide coastal public access. The Intern will:

·       Develop an Android and iOS app using ArcGIS Developer license (provided by CZM)

·       Continue to develop various CGO layers including coastal trails, fishing piers, boat launches, and municipal piers

·       Create an AGOL web map showing the locations of all geotagged photos submitted to CGO, and continue to photo document all parcels

 

2)   CZM and United States Geological Survey (USGS) collect high resolution seafloor mapping data throughout Massachusetts waters and create interpreted geological and habitat maps. The Intern will:

·       Create an AGOL web map or maps that show the footprint of the various seafloor mapping activities by location and data type

·       Collaborate with USGS at the Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center as needed

·       Present the final Story Map to CZM and USGS at the end of the internship

Knowledge and Skills required:

 

Qualifications:

1.     Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online (AGOL)

2.     Program of study related to Geographic Information Science (GIS)

3.     At least one course in computer programing

4.     App development skills

5.     Demonstrated ability to work independently, and to work effectively and communicate with a group.

Preferable:

1.     Graduate student in a GIS or related program

2.     Experience building mobile apps or working with ArcGIS Developer

3.     Experience or interest in coastal resources

4.     Have your own transportation to visit coastal communities

Hours per week:

 

This part-time internship position (~20-30 hours/week), will be offered from June 4th to August 20th, 2018 (these dates are flexible).

 

Other relevant information:

 

It is unpaid and housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern. Current undergraduate, graduate, or recently graduated students are encouraged to apply.

 

Candidates may be asked to submit a recent map or link to GIS or development project that you have done. Final candidates will be interviewed at the CZM office in Boston.
