Homegrown Installation Specialist Internship

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Homegrown Installation Specialist Intern 2018

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden’s mission is to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate its historic glasshouse.

Homegrown is a Phipps program dedicated to increasing community access to fresh produce, promoting better food choices, and improving the overall health of families and children. We fulfill our goals by installing raised bed vegetable gardens at households in underserved neighborhoods, and by providing mentorship and resources. The Homegrown Installation Specialist Intern works under the Garden Installation Coordinator to assist with all aspects of the raised bed installation program: preparing supplies, assembling and setting up beds, removing sod, unloading and moving soil, and clean-up. The intern will also help to implement neighborhood beautification work days and assist with other education and outreach program duties as needed. The intern will work in Homewood and Larimer frequently, completing physical installation and projects.

Candidates must have previous experience with hands-on landscaping or vegetable gardening, as well as familiarity and proficiency with the use of common landscaping tools. This paid internship is 32 hours per week, from May-August 2018.

TO APPLY: Submit a resume and cover letter detailing your experience as it relates to the position to hr@phipps.conservatory.org or Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, One Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Application deadline: March 15, 2018.
