Full-Time Elementary Teacher for English Learners
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess current Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate
- Must meet Michigan Highly Qualified requirements
- ESL Endorsement or experience working with English Learners preferred
- Willingness to become ESL endorsed if not currently endorsed
- Ability to speak another language other than English (preferred)
- Knowledge of cultural and educational issues of students speaking one or more of the targeted languages (Arabic or Spanish - preferred)
- Positive attitude toward students and native cultures
- Empathy for students whose native language is not English
- Flexible and responsive to the multiple needs of EL students
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with whole groups, small groups, or individual students to instruct them in learning language acquisition skills
- Possess positive interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess strong classroom management skills
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Maintain excellent organizational skills
- Willingness to provide job embedded professional development for colleagues
- Ability to demonstrate best practice instruction and familiarity with SIOP method (preferred)
*Experience working with newcomers (preferred)
