The Mission of the Therapist is “Helping Children to be Victors.”   An innovative therapeutic design for a residential level of care using an ‘outpatient’ design and model. Unlike traditional roles of therapists in the residential milieu, this allows for evidence based skill building with clients to use in the community and outside the residential lens.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Therapist must possess a State of Michigan limited/licensure in Master in Social Work, Psychology, Professional Counseling or related licensed mental health field.   State of Michigan licensure as a Masters limited-level professional is required and full professional licensure preferred.

 Emotionally stable, of good moral character with mature judgment. Initiative, self aware, with self discipline and initiative in areas of program development.

  1. Working familiarity with the principles and tenets of therapeutic case assessment, clinical intervention skills, and cognitive behavioral framework, working knowledge of community agency function, group work, individual and family therapy and residential treatment.
  2. Excellent writing skills, able to write reports and progress notes that are accurate, high quality and meet all quality standards set forth by the agency. Ability to make assessment intervention, evaluation and have excellent communication skills.
  3. Primary position will be Monday – Friday during business hours, though exception may be necessary based on program or agency needs. Able to work some evenings or weekends as scheduled to accommodate facility and client’s family needs. 24/7 crisis response may be required as needed by clients risk levels.
  4. Ability to interpret and integrate standardized client assessment tools into service planning and treatment goals and integrated in services delivery.
  5. Has ability to work effectively and harmoniously with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds including staff, clients and their families; with an understanding of and respect for multi-cultural diversity.
  6. Sincere interest in the promotion of wellness for adolescent clients, able to respond to the needs of clients especially in emergency/crisis situations. This includes responding to suicide risk assessment, response and safety planning for youth in crisis.
  7. Appropriate role model for clients and co-workers.
  8. Ability to integrate CBT training, supervision and 6 core skills into work with staff, clients and families. Assumes an open and advocacy position regarding training and use of approved evidence based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Competence in teaching and applying evidence based strategies within a juvenile justice residential program structure.
  9. Has good physical condition and health adequate for effectively carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
  10. Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license with a chauffeur’s endorsement.
  11. Ability to pass the WHS CBT Level III endorsement for CBT fidelity and competency.
  12. Has a working knowledge of state licensing, child protection law, accreditation standards of best practice, funding contracts and other regulatory entities/regulations that inform day to day practice or protocols of the agency.

  Responsibilities:

  1. The Therapist will ensure that all clients on assigned caseload receive individual, group and family therapy as specified by the treatment program. Outcomes monitoring.
  2. Screening and assessment for all clients within appropriate timeframes of client’s admission, to be included in service plans and clinical team work.
  3. Monitor access and referral to auxiliary services and specialized treatment or coordinated care needs of clients in collaboration with the case manager and/or team manager for each client.
  4. Provide treatment services as prescribed by the specialized program, utilizing CBT or MI treatment interventions that are stage matches and stage appropriate.
  5. Monitor and facilitate ongoing communication by case manager and/or team manager to client’s, families, and staff referring workers.
  6. Conduct family therapy session to support and facilitate family functioning.
  7. Chair clinical meetings and team meetings effectively by providing evidence based interventions and clinical case oversight to youth care workers serving clients.
  8. Act as a secondary liaison with the referring workers, court systems, clients and families: including but not limited to service planning, collaboration, incident reporting, review of progress, aftercare planning and dispute resolution as needed.
  9. Ability to meet all required deadlines, schedules and to complete all tasks assigned in an efficient and timely manner.
  10. Effectively communicate significant information to treatment team members through logging and verbal communication.
  11. Attend all required staff meetings and trainings. Support treatment team members through suggestions and innovative ideas on a regular basis.
  12. Able to participate in agency and external professional development programs. This includes receiving weekly clinical supervision using a CBT supervision model and audio recorded session review with designated clinical supervisor.
