Special Education Coordinator- BASIS Baton Rouge

BASIS Baton Rouge, a new K-4 campus, is seeking qualified candidates for a Special Education Coordinator for the 2018/2019 school year!

BASIS.ed is seeking a Special Education Coordinator whose primary responsibility will be to oversee the entire special education program at a school site. The academic program is consistently ranked among the top 10 programs nationally and is competitive on an international scale. The mission of BASIS.ed Schools is to provide an academically excellent and rigorous liberal arts college preparatory education to all Lower and Upper School students. It is imperative that our Special Education Specialists share our vision of improving the state of education in our country.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  •  Coordinating and assuring full state and federal compliance with all aspects of programming (identification, review, dismissal) for students with disabilities per the IDEA, Section 504 and the ADA;
  •  Providing direct special education services, as needed, and supervising itinerant service providers;
  •  Preparing and reporting accurate and timely data for internal and external regulatory purposes; and
  •  Facilitating in the development and implementation of informal academic and behavioral intervention programs for individual students.

Job Qualifications:  

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree, valid state issued Mild to Moderate Disabilities 1-5 certification.  

Preferred Qualifications: Subject matter postgraduate work (Master's or Ph.D.) is preferred or a combination of subject matter undergraduate degree with a Master's in Education. Together with a high level of educational attainment, a successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills in teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence. Critically, an applicant must possess a high GPA in his/her major, excellent recommendations, experience working with children, not necessarily in the classroom, and be open to new ideas in teaching.
