Film Internship Program

The program

It’s an exciting time for the Colombian film industry. Given its current rapid growth inspiring international attention and investment, film companies offer ideal work experience opportunities. Backed by government initiatives, the industry continues to attract productions from big names such as FOX, National Geographic, and Netflix. Our Internship program offers applicants the chance to be a part of this growth. So far, we have hosted interns from US and Canadian film programs including USC, RISD, Boston University, University of South Carolina, Syracuse University, University of California Davis, and University of Regina.

The Film Internship Program will run in Bogota, Colombia, starting in June 2018, and placements will last for six or eight weeks. Applicants should be ambitious, enthusiastic and keen to develop practical and technical production skills through hands-on work experience. Interns can expect to work on high-profile projects: for example, they could be placed with Dynamo (Narcos), Screen Colombia (The Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid), 64A Films (the hugely successful telenovela El Patron del Mal), or Ciudad Lunar with Oscar-winning Director Ciro Guerra.

Participants are each assigned a workplace mentor, who will provide the relevant professional training and weekly written reviews. Spoken Spanish is desirable but not essential. The program will launch with an event at Proimagenes, the Colombian Film Commission, and students will also be able to attend a series of prestigious lectures at the Bogota Audiovisual Market, an internationally-renowned event that promotes the industry in Colombia.

The internships are arranged as a package that includes accommodation, an airport pickup, networking events, and a busy social calendar designed to help participants explore Colombia and its culture. This package costs $2,950 USD for the 6 week program and $3,450 USD for the 8 week program.

What roles are available?

The Internships cover a range of specializations depending upon the company placement. These include production, camera, sound, lighting and animation, sales and marketing, distribution or post-production, and we can accommodate specific requests from applicants. You can find the list of Red Tree’s partner film companies on our website.
