Summer Rotational Internship

You’ve likely heard about self-driving cars. Perhaps your parents have a Nest. Maybe you own a FitBit or an Apple Watch. Smart, connected devices like these are part of a new and rapidly growing industry called the "Internet of Things" (IoT), which is expected to grow to trillions of dollars over the next 10 years as 50 billion devices are brought online.

Aeris is at the forefront of the IoT, building networks and applications to enable Fortune 500 clients like Chrysler, Honda and Bosch to design innovative new product offerings and fundamentally improve their businesses. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices in Chicago, London, Delhi, and Tokyo as well as other markets, we rank among the top ten cellular providers for the IoT globally.

Our company is in an enviable spot. We’re profitable, and both our bottom line and our global reach are growing rapidly. We’re playing in an exploding market where technology evolves daily and acquisitions happen left and right. We have a unique opportunity to pay our success forward by providing a one-of-a-kind learning experience to a handful of talented college students interested in learning about our industry, and about technology startups in general. We’ve designed our internship program to expose underrepresented students to career opportunities in the industry. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a group that is currently underrepresented in the industry (including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, female, transgender, students with disabilities, and more) are all strongly encouraged to apply.

We’re offering a 10 week, full-time engineering internship that will run from either May 21 - July 27 or June 25 - August 31, depending on the student’s school schedule. All interns will be provided with a stipend, paid hourly. Out-of-state students and those commuting from more than two hours away may receive subsidized housing, meals and transportation to and from the office.

Internships are available in Chicago, IL and San Jose, CA. All interns will have the option to participate in three impactful weekend outings to explore the surrounding area.

As a summer intern, you will have the opportunity to rotate across 1-2 departments (Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Strategy, and HR/Talent Acquisition), learning how each operates and contributing individually and as a team to a wide variety of projects that directly impact the business. You will have the chance to learn about a new and growing industry, witness firsthand how a mature technology startup operates, and gain real, practical experiences that will carry you over the bridge from student to professional.

Finally, you will learn how to pitch a startup to investors. Collaborating with the other Aeris interns, you will create a pitch and product demo, which you will then present to summer interns at the investment firm Makena Capital Management.

The role offers access to some of the most brilliant minds in the industry, and the opportunity to contribute to a thriving company – in an environment that values innovation, autonomy and integrity.

Interested? A few things to know about Aeris:

  • We do things differently. As a pioneer in a highly-competitive industry that is poised to reshape every sector of the global economy, we cannot fall back on old models. Rather, we must chart our own path and strive to out-innovate, out-learn and out-pace the competition along the way.
  • We walk the walk on diversity. We’re a brilliant and eclectic mix of ethnicities, religions, industry experiences, sexual orientations, generations and more – and that’s by design. Diverse perspectives are essential to our culture, innovative process and competitive edge.
  • Integrity is essential. We believe in doing things well – and doing them right. Integrity is a core value here: you’ll see it embodied in our staff, our management approach and growing social impact work (we have a VP devoted to it). You’ll also see it embodied in the way we manage people and our HR issues: we expect employees and managers to deal with issues directly, immediately and with the utmost respect for each other and for the Company.
  • We are owners. Strong managers empower their teams to figure out how to solve problems. You will be no exception, and will have the ownership, accountability and autonomy needed to be truly creative.

Still interested? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • You’re a college student in strong academic standing. The internship is open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors from all majors. Transcripts will be requested as part of the application process.
  • You’re curious. You may not have much prior work experience, but you have a demonstrated interest in understanding how technology can be applied to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges. You can easily provide us with multiple examples that showcase your drive and ability to learn – fast.
  • You have strong analytical skills. You have a demonstrated ability to solve tough problems, leveraging data, instinct, creativity and grit.
  • You’re eager. You proactively seek out learning opportunities, and you mobilize to get the most out of them as you possibly can.
  • You’re a team player. You know that proactively contributing ideas, collaborating with others, asking questions, seeking out projects, and coming to others for help as needed are keys to success.
  • You’re professional. You have a strong professional demeanor, and know how to write and present clearly. No matter which department you’re in, writing and presenting will be involved.
  • We’ve designed our internship program to expose underrepresented students to career opportunities in the industry. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a group that is currently underrepresented in the industry (including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, female, transgender, students with disabilities, and more) are all strongly encouraged to apply.

Aeris walks the walk on diversity. We’re a brilliant mix of varying ethnicities, religions, cultures, sexual orientations, gender identities, ages and professional/personal/military experiences – and that’s by design. Diverse perspectives are essential to our culture, innovative process and competitive edge. Aeris is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
