Marketing Internship - Summer 2018

Overview

Active Cities (activecities.com) is a free website that makes it easier for people to explore and discover different ways to be active. The site features a growing network of directories that contain a comprehensive list of local sports, fitness and recreational opportunities in various cities throughout the United States. The vision of Active Cities is to become the nation’s largest, most comprehensive online network for activities and things to do in every major U.S. city.

We are seeking enthusiastic, self-driven individuals who will be dedicated to the growth, development and overall mission of Active Cities. The Marketing Internship comprises several core components, content development, search engine optimization (SEO), advertising/sponsorships, e-marketing and social media. Each team member will gain hands on experience with nearly every aspect of the business operation. This position also includes an educational component, where interns will be delivered a series of brief lectures all centered around marketing and small business. Examples of the lecture topics include Launching a Business, Branding, Websites, Product to Market, Revenue Streams, Project/Workflow Management, Recruiting, and Team/Group Dynamics.

The internship is part-time (approx. 10 hrs. per week), work will be assigned and completed remotely. This position is ideal for candidates who have the ability and desire to manage a flexible work schedule with no physical office location. The internship is unpaid, but can be used to obtain educational credits or satisfy a degree requirement (Please speak with your Faculty Advisor to learn if this is an available option for your course of study). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute directly to the growth of a small business, as well as develop a broad range of skills that can apply to any professional work setting.


Qualifications

  • Undergraduate students preferred

  • Ability to manage a flexible schedule with no permanent office location

  • Strong written and interpersonal skills

  • Creativity, critical thinking, versatility

  • Experience with social media

  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn online utilities such as Wordpress, Asana and Slack



Responsibilities

  • Engage in a team project to build new city directories and expand Active Cities’ national network

  • Schedule social media posts on Facebook and Twitter accounts

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase website traffic and user engagement

  • Produce written and visual content as needed

  • Contribute to development and execution of the business plan

  • Participate in group discussions and decision concerning the business as a whole
