Civil Engineering Intern

The Village of Winnetka's Public Works Department is seeking student applicants for the temporary position of Civil Engineering Intern. This position is expected to begin work in late-May and continue through August (approximately 10 to 12 weeks). The Civil Engineering Intern will be responsible for supporting the Engineering division of the Public Works Department in the planning, designing, administration, and construction of capital improvement and maintenance projects.  

Primary Duties:

  • Perform construction inspections.
  • Perform traffic counts.
  • Participate on survey crews.
  • Prepare CAD drawings.
  • Data collection and research.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Full-time student of sophomore status or higher pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited college or university.
  • General knowledge of civil engineering concepts, practices, and theories.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access; GIS systems; and ability to learn other software programs.
  • Ability to read, clearly speak, and legibly write the English language.
  • Valid driver's license.

This is a temporary position for the summer months in 2018. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly. Work may be performed in outdoor conditions and/or in close proximity to vehicular traffic.

Hourly Rate: $15.00/hr.
