Ocean Procurement Associate

Our Pricing and Procurement Team is essential to winning key clients. As an Ocean Procurement Associate, your clients will be ocean carriers, Flexport sales people, and operations staff. You will be the bridge between the procurement of space on ocean vessels and filling that space effectively with client cargo.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and maintain internal contract database
    • Ensure rates are filed in a timely manner
    • Review rates to confirm competitiveness and to confirm they are in line with the market
    • Quality check rate updates
    • Assist with contract management during contract season
  • Support and assist with Flexport growth goals
    • Conduct Ocean FCL trainings
    • Serve as resource for new business
    • Help plan client operational strategy  
    • Have a pulse on company objectives and how these relate to Ocean goals
  • Serve squad point contact for escalation
    • Assist with diversions & other shipment / operational exceptions requiring carrier intervention
    • Facilitate communication between origin and destination for carrier escalations
    • Assist with new client implementation as it relates to Ocean FCL

What you'll bring:

  • BA/BS degree with a strong track record of success;
  • 1-3 years of experience working abroad, at a startup, top consulting, accounting or investment banking firm (minimum 1 year post-graduation full-time experience required);
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
  • An obsession with client happiness. You succeed when they succeed;
  • Next-level attention to detail;
  • Courage to challenge the status quo when logic and reason require it. See something broken? Fix it;
  • The intellectual horsepower to become an expert on international trade in a matter of weeks; and
  • A mastery of email communication. You keep the inbox at zero.
