School Garden Summer Intern

Columbia Heights Public Schools is a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis serving 3200 students from diverse backgrounds. CHPS students speak over 30 different home languages, 25% are English Learners, over 75% qualify for free/reduced lunch; over 70% identify as races other than white. We are Hylanders, proud of our diversity, of our small town atmosphere with all the big city benefits. Since 2010 CHPS has had Blooming Heights Edible Schoolyard with a full time Agriculture Specialist since 2013. Blooming Heights is integrated into curriculum from early childhood through high school (even have visits with our adult basic education program!). During the summer students learn how to maintain and care for the garden, learn nutrition and cooking skills, and even have a small farm stand! Every subject comes alive in Blooming Heights and students enjoy the active learning in the most beautiful "classroom" in the district! We are planning on this internship being around 30 hours/week and going from mid-June through mid-Aug but we are flexible with these details.
