Special Education Teacher

Position: Special Education Teacher in a Self-Contained Classroom for Emotionally Impaired Students

Qualifications:

Must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate.

Must meet state requirements in area of certification with K-12 endorsement in:

·         Emotional Impairment (SE) or

·         Learning Disability (SM) or

·         Cognitive Impairment (SA)

Must meet or exceed MDE accreditation standards.

Must meet criteria for Highly Qualified status under No Child Left Behind Act.

Training in TCI and/or LSCI preferred.

Experience teaching students with severe emotional impairments is preferred.

Responsibilities:

1.       Must follow district and state curricula and assessment requirements.

2.       Knowledge of current curriculum trends in special education. 

3.       Knowledge and ability to effectively apply the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks with particular                  emphasis on teaching, learning and assessment standards.

4.       Knowledge of and ability to implement Life Space Crisis Intervention technique including processing through the conflict cycle with students.

5.       Knowledge of and ability to implement Therapeutic Crisis Intervention technique including physical management of physically aggressive students.

6.       Knowledge of and ability to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

7.       Knowledge of and commitment to regularly use technology as an instructional tool to enhance teaching and learning.

8.       Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate student progress with parents, local district and special education supervisor in order to transition students back to their home district.

9.       Knowledge of and ability to implement on a regular basis higher order thinking skill development.

10.   Demonstrate ability to develop an interdisciplinary approach to delivering instructional outcomes.

11.   Complete and submit all required paperwork, for example, IEP’s, transition plans, Medicaid billings, behavior intervention plans, etc in a timely manner.

12.   Follow and implement all Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines and building regulations.

13.   Willing to perform other duties as necessary by special education program supervisor and/or special education administrator.
