Project Engineer

General Responsibilities and Function:

  • Work in conjunction with the Sales Manager to develop and launch products into production. Product Engineer is ultimately responsible for the completion of this activity.
  • Work in conjunction with the Program Manager to develop the PPAP documentation for every program. Review the documents with the customer and review any changes to the Program Manager. Product Engineer is ultimately responsible for the completion of this activity.
  • Work with the Program Manager and Quality Engineer to define significant characteristics. Review the specifications with the customer and report any changes to the Project Team. Product Engineer is ultimately responsible for the completion of this activity.
  • Work in conjunction with the Program Manager to benchmark components.
  • Perform engineering functions including calculations, FEA, material analysis, part performance evaluation, pre-production & production systems feasibility and etc.
  • Arrange and manage any necessary research and development. Utilize the budget for funding of experimental designs.
  • Utilize Design of Experiments and process analysis to insure smooth transition from pre-production to production.
  • In conjunction with Program Manager and Purchasing, obtain all vendor quotations, initiate all PO’s upon request from the Program Manager and coordinate with Purchasing and Hydra suppliers to make sure all materials are made and shipped to meet program timing.
  • Maintain copies of both customer and corporate design guides.
  • Aid the Program Manager by coordinating all activities with plant personnel (i.e. Manufacturing Engineering, Production Leader, Production Control, Quality Engineering, etc.)
  • Work in direct contact with the customer when necessary -- follow up with documentation, both written and oral, to the remaining team members explaining what transpired.
  • Be present for pre-production trials, and make sure all necessary materials and equipment are in place.
  • Maintain regular contact with the suppliers and utilize their resources whenever possible or necessary.
  • Develop relationships with our customer's technical personnel.
  • Participate in and track project open issues (Internal / Plant Side) for all projects. Product Engineer is ultimately responsible for the completion of this activity.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing of product samples.
  • Select the appropriate vendors with Purchasing and input from other relevant team members.
  • Coordinate CAD, FEA and testing activities, both internal and external. *

  • 25% Design, testing, debugging, trouble-shooting
  • 15% Develop quote packages, technical presentations

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree and/or product manufacturing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of current use & leading edge technologies.
  • Able to learn about new products / technologies quickly.
  • Strong knowledge of material processing, tooling and part fabrication.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Self-motivator with an ability to motivate others.
