Botany Field Internships (Rare Plant Monitoring)

The Conservation Research Program at the Institute for Applied Ecology (www.appliedeco.org) is hiring two seasonal interns for field work and related activities associated with rare plant monitoring. This position(s) will work closely with IAE professional staff and a crew leader to evaluate population status and habitat quality for the endangered Willamette daisy throughout its range in Willamette Valley prairies. The majority of time in this position will be spent doing field surveys, but will also include time spent identifying unknown plant species and performing data entry. Interns are also expected to contribute to our research program blog. Few overnight trips are expected. This position will start May 14 through July 20, with the possibility for extended work depending on weather and plant phenology.

Qualifications:
* Interest in conservation biology, restoration ecology, and/or botany.
* Plant identification skills and experience using technical keys (or enthusiastic willingness to learn).
* Field research experience.
* Strong attention to organization and detail.
* Ability to work long hours in adverse weather conditions with potential exposure to poison oak. Work will frequently occur in wet prairie habitats with seasonally inundated soils, and appropriate field gear is a must.
* Physical ability to work in a bent-over, kneeling, or standing position for significant periods of time.
* Clear, direct communication skills.

Compensation: $11.00/hr, paid monthly, plus travel expenses associated with overnight field work (food and lodging). Housing in Corvallis is not provided.

TO APPLY: Applications should be compiled into a single PDF document and emailed to jobs@appliedeco.org no later than Friday, January 26th, 2018. In the subject line, write: “Botany Field Intern Application (Monitoring)”.

Include a letter of interest stating when you will be available to start work (this is a MUST), resume, transcripts (unofficial is fine), and the names and contact information for three references. AT LEAST ONE reference must be from a supervisor from a work experience. If you are applying to more than one position at IAE, you will need to submit applications to specific postings in separate e-mails.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Non-U.S. residents must also include a copy of their work visa. Applications will be considered upon receipt. Please direct all inquiries to jobs@appliedeco.org.
