About us

Friends of the American University of Afghanistan (FAUAF) is dedicated to support higher education in Afghanistan through entities such as American University of Afghanistan (AUAF), Afghanistan’s only independent, private, not for profit, non-sectarian, coeducational institution of higher learning. 

Founded in 2008, FAUAF is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Washington, D.C. We provide financial support and increase awareness and understanding of academic institutions, such as AUAF, which is located in Kabul. FAUAF enhances higher education opportunities in Afghanistan through grants that support infrastructure, financial aid, and programs that meet the needs of Afghanistan. FAUAF serves as a development and communications center for United States donors. 

FAUAF Internship

The goal of the internship program is to have an opportunity to be involved in many aspects of business development, implementation and program activities and provide support to the Friends staff and University in Kabul.

Requirements: At a minimum, applicants must be at least undergraduate students and be able to come in to the office at least 3 days a week (9-4). Flexibility allowed for class schedules. Candidates should have a strong academic background, organizational skills, and an interest in FAUAF’s mission. Database experience is a plus.

Responsibilities: 

·         Research issues related to Afghanistan, regarding economic development, gender issues, and entrepreneurship opportunities

·         Help with communications including writing articles for the Friends website, newsletters and maintaining other communication hubs

·         Plan and staff regional fundraising events/ galas

·         Assist in the management of volunteers and other personnel associated with FAUAF

·         Assist in the management of special public and private sector projects, grants etc.

·         Research viable partnerships with organizations, associates, corporations, etc.

·         Support activities of Friends staff

·         Assist with database management

 Course credit is available. Salary: $20/day
