Sr. Associate, Associate Manager, Analytical Chemist

Senior Associate Analytical Chemist / Associate Manager – Analytical Chemist– S&T Applied Sciences

 

Operations Excellence Science & Technology is seeking a candidate to develop new technologies and measurement techniques aligned with business technology roadmaps to deliver on the ideal user experience and create growth for SCJ. The Science & Technology vision is focused on being a strategic partner with the category RD&E divisions by being a knowledge center, staffed with trusted and empowered scientists and engineers. You will play a key role in achieving our vision and leading the cultural change within S&T.

 

THE POSITION: 

We are seeking an Analytical Chemist to develop and improve processes and products critical to SCJ.  You will research and evaluate analytical techniques and technologies to better understand the performance of our wide array of consumer products.  You will understand how products impact user experience and translate consumer insights into practical applications. You will use, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced laboratory equipment coupled with statistical and mathematical modeling software to develop a deeper understanding of how our products work and their effects on the environment they act upon. You will work cross functionally to discuss results with many functional disciplines such as chemists, toxicologists and package engineers. You will develop fundamental understanding of product performance and develop methods to understand and characterize performance. Through this process you will help improve everyday life by giving your findings practical applications across existing and future SCJ product categories.  Your results will also be used to improve scientific developments and to further, enhance or re-evaluate current scientific theory.

 

Success in realizing the full potential of a research Analytical Chemist is rooted in three functional skills:

·         Technology Acumen:  Leveraging business acumen, build technical capability in support of business and communication strategy, product categories, and end users. Translate understanding into technology vision, strategies, and plans that drive successful business outcomes.

·         Scientific Rigor:  Create and utilize development methods and tools (i.e. Robust DOE) to solve technical problems and deliver claims. Establish complete validation / test plans. Demonstrate sound technical judgment for the entire Research and Design value chain. Demonstrate sound laboratory practices.

·         Technical Expertise:  Show technical breadth and depth in end-to-end commercialization, global project experiences, technology trends, competitive and IP landscape, measurement systems, analytical test methods, sustainability / greenlist, and leveraging external technologies.

Maintaining and leveraging state-of-the-art knowledge

·         Engages with external experts in academia and industry bringing in innovative opportunities

·         Stays current on technical advancements on own and adjacent areas

·         Regularly attends technical conferences and expositions with appropriate follow-ups

Playing the role of Subject Matter Expert

·         Method development providing Analytical Chemistry insight into the performance of our products

·         Anticipating needs and maintaining right lab infrastructure

·         Participating actively in task forces that benefit from the expertise

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION: 

·         Strong technical abilities – Shows technical breadth and depth, technology trends, external outreach, creatively solve problems

·         Technical and business acumen – Capable of translating business strategy into technology vision, strategies, and plans

·         Strong communicator – Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization including other chemists and scientists, as well as nonscientists

·         Problem solver and forward thinker – Strong ability to analyze, disaggregate information in a structured way, identify core issues, and synthesize insights. Constantly aware of the next level of improvement required to best benefit the company

·         Expertise –

o   Strong knowledge in analytical testing and analytical methods

o   Breadth of experience in analytical techniques including GC, HPLC, RAMAN, MS, FTIR and other analytical techniques

o   Math and statistical skills for experimental design and analysis

o   Knowledge base within chemistry and principles emulsion and suspension products

o   Understanding of Surfactants & Solvents is preferred

o   Experience in chemometrics preferred

o   Experience in statistical linkage of analytical results to sensory measurements preferred

·         Education – Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry

·         5-7 years of Industry and/or Post-Doctoral experience with proven track record of success in Analytical Chemistry with impact on business results

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

·         Pd.D in Analytical Chemistry

·         Master of Science degree in Chemistry

·         Analytical Chemistry experience

·         Working knowledge of Design of Experiments

·         Must be able to communicate effectively through oral, written, and presentation
