Health Director

Position: Health Officer       

Time Line: 10 week summer position.                               

General Function

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Health Officer is responsible for the health, safety and medication administration of all campers and staff.  The Health Officer will maintain the cleanliness and organization of the camp Health Center and health/emergency supplies. In addition, the Health Officer will function as a member of the administrative team, providing leadership to all of camp. 

Training and Experience

Must be at least 21 years of age with desire to work and live in a camp community, and possess good interpersonal and communication skills. This person must hold a current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, RN, LPN or American Red Cross Camp Health Officer. This person must demonstrate the ability to organize, update and maintain records.  

Specific Duties

Attend Director training.

Attend and take a lead role in staff training, specifically training counseling staff about their role in the health service program.

Perform on call duty 24 hours per day for days that camp is in session.

Maintain camp health center for camper and staff health care.

Inventory health care supplies and inform Program Director of inventory needs.

Review approved standing orders and incorporate into the daily operation of health service delivery.

Establish record keeping system for daily camper and staff medication delivery, according to American Camp Association accreditation and State of Michigan licensing standards.

Review all camper and staff health forms, making note of any special health related circumstances.

Work with trips staff to ensure that all camper medication is dispensed on trips and check the trips first aid kits.

Manage daily medication delivery to campers and staff and keep accurate records of all medication.

Manage daily health issues as they arise and keep accurate records of any treatment given.

Maintain a positive role model for campers and staff.

Ensure that campers’ soiled clothing is laundered, in coordination with counseling staff.
