The mission of Equitas Academy Charter Schools is to provide a structured, achievement-based community that prepares students to graduate from four-year colleges and universities. Equitas Academy was founded in 2009 as a network of free public schools for families who believe their children deserve a high-quality education and challenging school experience. We currently serve over 1,200 students in Kinder-8th grade in two elementary schools and two middle schools. Equitas Academy is based in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

You have what it takes if you have...

    • A Bachelor's degree
    • A current Education Specialist teaching credential (internship is acceptable) or out of state equivalent
    • English Learner authorization
    • A strong belief that all students can succeed
    • A belief in structured classroom environments and high expectations for all students
    • Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities, including those with special needs and low skill level
    • 2-3 years of urban teaching (preferred)
    • Bilingual-Spanish (preferred)

Responsibilities

    • Provide instruction and support to students with special education needs to achieve IEP goals, as well as quarterly progress monitoring of each scholar's IEP goals
    • Ensure access to learning in the core program and guide progress toward standards and requirements.
    • Develop appropriate academic and behavioral goals based on Equitas Academy's standards and CA standards/Common Core
    • Knowledgeably identify and guide the implementation of appropriate accommodations, and/or modifications to ensure students' learning success in the general education classroom
    • Collaborate with a scholar's general education teacher, Expanded Learning (After School) Team Leader, and testing coordinator, as required by a student's IEP, and provide appropriate documentation for participation with accommodations in standardized testing
    • Facilitate and lead IEP meetings, conduct assessments, prepare IEP reports and maintain inter-agency and district contacts regarding IEPs
    • Understand guidelines for suspension and expulsion of students with IEPs and ensure procedural rights
    • Develop and implement appropriate Behavior Support Plans or behavior management techniques for use in instructional and interpersonal activities
    • Collaborate with administrators, teachers and instructional assistants in developing and monitoring the success of students in the general education program
    • Develop positive relationships with parents, engaging them in the IEP process by conducting interviews and conferences with parents and discussing student progress on an ongoing basis
    • Create and maintain notifications, records, files, and reports as required by federal, state and SELPA regulations
    • Maintain knowledge of current regulations and best practices pertaining to special education
