Cal Ripken World Series Athletic Trainer
The Cal Ripken Major/70 World Series, to be held at Ballparks of America in Branson, Missouri, is the culmination tournament of Babe Ruth League’s Cal Ripken Baseball Major/70 Division. Teams from eight United States regions and eight countries, face off to compete for the Cal Ripken World Series title. The annual Cal Ripken World Series will take place from August 3 – 11, 2018.
Summary:
World Series Athletic Trainers
will be assigned to shadow prior to and during the 2018 Cal Ripken World Series
tournament. Beginning (TBD), World Series Athletic Trainers will assist with event
preparation leading up to the Cal Ripken World Series. This Internship guarantees
at least 100 hours of skilled volunteer
experience, as it requires World Series Athletic Trainers to become fully engaged
in their tournaments, as they run the behind-the-scenes.
During the Cal Ripken World Series, World Series Athletic Trainers will be provided with the following:

Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the World Series Task Force and Headquarters Staff in fulfillment, planning, and event coordination of the Cal Ripken World Series, an 8-day event at Ballparks of America in Branson, Missouri.
- Work at the facility everyday through the duration of the event (August 3-11, 2018).
- Advocate for the identification, prevention, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
- Communication with coaches, World Series personnel, parents, and other medical specialist.
- Act as the general point-person for all medical needs.
- Complete administrative tasks, as requested.
- Maintaining a safe environment and helping to determine an athlete’s readiness to safely compete and practice.
- Convey and maintain a high level of professionalism at all times while providing extraordinary external and internal customer service.
Requirements:
- CPR/AED
Certified
- Must
be a current undergraduate student or graduate student with relevant experience
and/or education in the areas of Athletic Training/Sports Medicine.
- Must
have own transportation to and from Ballparks of America in Branson, Missouri
for the duration of the event.
- Availability
to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, for the duration of the
tournament.
Preferred:
- Familiarity
with business writing
- Interest
in foreign languages/willingness to facilitate translation. Korean, Spanish, or
Japanese
- Knowledge
of Branson, Missouri, area businesses and neighborhoods.
- Ability
to work until August 18 to wrap up post-event duties
Working Conditions
/ Special Physical Requirements:
Interns may be required to lift
or move weight of 25-50 lbs., may be exposed to dust/dirt at the stadium, and
will regularly climb stairs to the press box.
