This requisition is for a Mechanical Commodity Manager position in HP Central Direct Procurement & Services (CDPS) organization. The Strategic Sourcing business team's charter is to lead HP-managed commodities, develop procurement strategies, provide sourcing leadership, and enhance our external component supplier relationships into a compelling competitive advantage. We are sourcing experts, managing the suppliers to drive product development, assurance of supply, business continuity plan, cost savings and cost predictability.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

This person will be responsible for the business and strategic sourcing activities of HP-managed mechanical parts for Inkjet printers, Laserjet printers, Large Format printers and 3D printers. The commodities that the person will manage include elastomers, belts, brushes, lubricants, lamps and a few other specialty mechanical commodities.

Lead the strategic sourcing business activities including but not limited to:

  • Develop and execute commodity strategy. Clearly document and communicate commodity and sourcing strategies to guide our development partners.
  • Own and develop supplier relationships.
  • Manage and negotiate part pricing with suppliers. Drive cost savings. Work with Sourcing Engineers and other R&D or Ops partners to identify the cost savings opportunities and execute the funnel projects.
  • Assess the supply base capability. Monitor and evaluate supplier performance. Drive for supplier performance improvement.
  • Source new suppliers or develop alternative suppliers.
  • Manage supply base risk, develop business continuity plans and execute risk mitigation strategies.
  • Utilize supply chain and financial modelling tools. Perform supplier financial risk assessment.
  • Analyse the commodity data, conduct market intelligence and perform the price trend analysis.
  • Negotiate and contract with suppliers.
  • Support any other business or commodity management activities which relate to strategic sourcing.

Manage the operational sourcing activities including but not limited to:

  • Manage AOS (assurance of supply), EOL (end of life) and LTB (last time buy).
  • Manage commodity long term forecast and supplier capacity planning.
  • Participate and lead supplier RFQ (Request for Quotation) event. Perform RFQ analysis and work together with Sourcing Engineers to make the business award decision.
  • Manage commodity spend and deliver cost savings.
  • Maintain supplier profile and pricing information in the HP database.
  • Enable NPI (New Product Introduction) activities: early supplier engagement, materials readiness, and capacity planning and help program team meet cost goal.
  • Work with internal and external partners (manufacturing partners and suppliers) to deliver the business results.
  • Follow the Procurement Management Processes that ensure audit compliance and minimize business risk.
  • Continually improve component supply chain efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Support any other operational sourcing activities as and when required.

The key partners that the person will work with include but not limited to:

  • Internal: CDPS Sourcing Engineers, R&D Designer, Program Manager, Ops Engineers, Ops Planner or Buyers, Product Cost Management team, Finance, Logistics etc.
  • External: Manufacturing Partners (MPa), Suppliers etc.

Qualification

Education and Experience Required

  • Graduate from the first level university, with major in mechanical engineering, business related, or supply chain related majors.
  • Preferred 2- 7+ years of experience in commodity management, procurement or supply chain function. Willing to consider recent college graduates or early career candidates.
  • Preferred mechanical sourcing experience (e.g. elastomers, belts, brushes) in the relevant industry.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, industry, and suppliers.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong business application skills (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint) and supply chain modeling skills.
  • Strong knowledge and use of procurement tools and applications.
  • Strong communication skills, including presentation and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong Project Management Skills. Good ability to develop suppliers.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills; Good influencing skills.
  • Ability to create a contract using standard HP contract templates with supervision. Applies cause and effect thinking to identify common contract risk areas. Capable of applying prepackaged contract solutions to obtain acceptable outcomes. Solid understanding of fundamental contracting principles.
  • Excellent cultural knowledge of supplier locations.
  • Strong ability to learn new things and adapt to the new environment.
  • High sense of responsibility. Willing to work under pressure.
