Position Summary:

The Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York invites applications for the Chair of the Department of Learning and Instruction. Candidates will be considered at the Associate/Full Professor level.
The Department of Learning and Instruction has a long history of research excellence, as well as a strong tradition of teaching and community engagement. Faculty demonstrate a commitment to creating a collegial academic environment characterized by equity, social justice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an ethic of care.
Working collaboratively with faculty, the chair provides administrative leadership across content and program areas. Responsibilities include providing oversight on scheduling, curricular and program offerings, administration of human and fiscal resources, and representing the department in college and university settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

• An active research program, a proven record of publishing, and securing external research funding
• An earned doctoral degree in English Education or Literacy Education with an emphasis on multimodal/multiliteracies, young adult literacies, new literacy studies, or digital literacies
• A documented record of administrative leadership and faculty mentorship
• An ability to teach in online and/or hybrid classrooms

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• K-12 teaching experience
• Previous experience as a department chair, program coordinator, and/or departmental leadership
