Summary:

Hitachi America, Ltd. (HAL) is looking for a Master’s degree holder or higher in Advanced Manufacturing Automation to join our Automotive Research & Development team as a Researcher. The Researcher will collaborate with HAL Researchers, Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas and Hitachi R&D in Japan on advanced automation solutions for next generation manufacturing and smart factories. The Researcher needs to have strong background on automation & control technologies, and prior experience of applying such technologies to solve industrial problems. He/she will evaluate and troubleshoot manufacturing automation and control systems, and research innovative technologies in the areas of design, modeling, manufacturing, control and optimization, The Researcher will investigate the latest advances in artificial intelligence (AI), automation architectures, machine learning and advanced robotics. The Researcher will need to perform on-site production investigation and provide recommendations to solve operation problems, improve manufacturing processes, and implement critical project designs to support factory initiatives and continuous improvement. The Researcher will be required to periodically generate invention disclosures based on research outcomes and must have the ability to make plans and execute them. The Researcher will also perform complex design analysis with high level analytical ability. The position requires the Researcher to work as a team member with good communication and written skills.  

Qualifications:

  • Masters or higher degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Strong background in automation and control technologies required.
  • 2 years of experience with lab research and or industry experience in advanced manufacturing required.
  • Experience in applying AI and machine learning to factory automation & industrial problem solving is preferred.
  • Strong understanding and experience in Automation, Robotics, Analytics and Optimization is required.
  • Good hands-on coding and experience in programing languages, ie Python and Matlab is required.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in metallic materials is required.
  • Candidate should be capable of writing new proposals to sustain funding for advanced research projects.
  • Candidate should exhibit skills in time and project management.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills will be required to report research results.
  • Ability to make test plans and execute experiments.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and present research outcomes.
  • Publish technical papers and attend/present at conferences and seminars.
  • Must be able to travel locally and internationally up to 25% of the time.
