The Operations Management Trainee position is a leadership role at BNSF Railway. These individuals lead a diverse workgroup to safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals that are in line with the company's vision.

Work Location: System Wide

Anticipated Start Date: January 29, 2018 or June 18, 2018

Salary Range: $68,000

RELOCATION:

A candidate can be relocated to any location across the BNSF system (see System Map on www.bnsf.com). An ideal candidate should be very flexible regarding location. Work assignment could place a Management Trainee anywhere on BNSF's operating system.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                            

Training for Transportation Management Trainees is a six-month program. This opportunity begins with a two-week comprehensive orientation at BNSF Corporate Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. Following orientation, the trainee will complete several additional weeks at the BNSF Technical Training Center (TTC) in Overland Park, Kansas, their field Headquarter location, and at the Network Operations Center in Fort Worth.

Overall, the trainee will learn to manage railroad terminal operations, work on specific logistics projects, manage a crew (which consists of a conductor and engineer), and prepare for a field operations supervisory position.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Facilitate multiple safety briefings throughout the shift with crews, dispatchers, maintenance employees and other BNSF Team Members.
• Lead crew discussions on how to approach others about safety, relay information about safely servicing customer plants and facilities, ways to minimize risk, and create a culture of safety compliance.
• Hold employees accountable for compliance with rules and regulations established by the Federal Railroad Administration and BNSF Railway.
• Ensure compliance with attendance policies and rules violations.
• Ride trains with the crews and direct operational testing & audits for the crews.
• Assist crews with personnel paperwork, vacation requests, and provide transportation for crews to board and operate the trains timely.
• Correspond with customers by providing accurate and timely information regarding their shipments to and from customer facility/plants on a daily basis.
• Plan the movement of cars, inventory, locomotive, crews and trains within a designated terminal and across an operational division/territory.
• Optimize crew utilization, the use of locomotives, and rail teams who work on track infrastructure in order to plan/execute track maintenance and repairs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Indoors and outdoors on a regular basis.
• Environment requires personal protective equipment, hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves.

HOURS OF WORK:

• Hours are irregular with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
• Schedule involves nights, weekends, and holidays, as BNSF is a 24 X 7 work environment.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT:

• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above for engineering majors OR cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above for non-engineering majors.
• Less than three (3) years of work experience in a professional work environment. When calculating work experience, EXCLUDE internships or positions held while in high school or college.

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree from an accredited university to be completed prior to hire OR have obtained a degree within the past three (3) years.
• Authorization to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to relocate within the BNSF Railway operating system to start and/or upon career progression and/or business need.
• Able to visually distinguish among red, blue, yellow and lunar (clear light) and able to see at night.
• Able to hear and with training distinguish auditory signal.
• Valid Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Degree in Engineering, Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Business, Distribution or a similar program.
• Experience working in an engineering, transportation, logistics or supply chain environment.
• Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience working outdoors or in an industrial environment.
